Punjab Town & Country Planning Dept amends Unified Zoning Regulations

Invites Suggestions from General Public upto August 8, 2019

Chandigarh, August 1 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Punjab Town & Country Planning (TCP) department notified the Sukh SarkariaPunjab Urban Planning and Development Building Rules and also prepared the master plans of the towns in the State which are governed by the Zoning Regulations.

In the past, different master plans had different set of Zoning Regulations thus causing confusion not only among the general public, but also within the department. To address this issue and have uniformity across board, the Unified Zoning Regulations were prepared and notified in the 2018.

Housing & Urban Development  Minister Mr. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria said that during implementation of Zoning Regulations, need to synchronize these with Building Rules was also felt, to ensure that development in the State takes place in a planned as well as regulated manner. The issue of bringing Zoning Regulations in tandem with Building Rules was deliberated in the last two meetings of the Punjab Regional & Town Planning and Development Board (PRTPDB), he said.

The Board was apprised that amendments were required in the Unified Zoning Regulations, so that these could be synchronized with the Building Rules. The Board acceded the proposal and directed the Town & Country Planning department to amend the Regulations and issue a public notice for inviting public objections/suggestions from the general public for finalizing the Zoning Regulations.

In compliance with the orders of Punjab Regional & Town Planning Board, the TCP department has uploaded the draft of amended Unified Landuse Zoning Regulations for Master Plans in Punjab on the websiteswww.pbhousing.gov.in & www.puda.gov.in and has invited objections/suggestions upto August 8, 2019. General Public can submit objections & suggestions to the office of Town & Country Planning, 6th Floor, PUDA Bhawan, Sector 62, SAS Nagar besides having option of submitting the same online.

As the original purpose of notifying the Zoning Regulations was to avoid ambiguities and confusion prevailing among the general public pertaining to the Regulations, consideration of suggestions and objections of public is must, said Mr. Sarkaria.

The minister said that the officials concerned have been instructed to maintain a regular check of the suggestions or objections being submitted and include the genuine public demands in the draft of the Regulations so that the same could be placed in the next meeting of the PRTPDB.
