Amritsar, Oct 24 (Punjab Post Bureau) – BBK DAV College for Women organised Diwali Fiesta: A special exhibition
to showcase the talent and entrepreneur skills of the students. The Fiesta was organised by Departments of Design, Fine Arts, Home Science and Jewellery Designing in the College premises. Sartaj Singh Chahal, Additional Commissioner of Police and Mrs. Alka Kalia, SDM Amritsar were the Guests of the event.
Showcasing their creativity, students exhibited stalls on tie and die, block and screen printing, upholstery and utility items, jute bags, murals, heena art, nail art, apparel accessories, scarves, stoles, wall hangings, dupatta, paper lanterns, mirrors, candles, diyas, various artefacts depiciting Ganesha, jharokhas etc. Besides this, the student displayed stalls of various food delicacies like, Bhel Puri, Russian Salad, Sandwiches, Golgappas, Cakes and Chocolates. Mr. Sartaj Singh Chahal applauded the efforts of the students for their creative talent and eclectic display. Mrs. Alka Kalia, congratulated the students, teachers and non-teaching staff who have worked behind the scenes to organise this event.
Acknowledging the endeavors of the students and staff, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that such events are necessary for acquainting the students with vocational skills. She added that BBK DAV College has always emphasized the practical aspect of learning.
On this occasion, Dr. Rashmi Kalia Head Department of Botany, Dr. Poonam Khullar, Head, Department of Chemistry and Dr. Shweta Mohan, Head, Department of Physics, alongwith other Science faculty members were congratulated and honoured for attaining a grant of Rupees One Crore and Fifty Nine Lakhs under Star Status Award by DBT, Government of India. Amongst the dignitaries present were Mr. Charanjit Mahindru, LMC Member and Smt. Balbir Kaur Bedi. Sudershan Kapoor Chairman LMC presented vote of thanks.
Mrs. Neenu Malhotra Vice-Principal, Mrs. Mandeep Sokhi Head of Department of Design, Dr. Poonam Rampal, Head Department of Home Science, Mrs. Shefali Johar Head Department of Fine Arts alongwith other faculty members congratulated the students on making Diwali Fiesta a grand success.
