Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences Launched Project “Soch” To Screen Cancer Patients

Amritsar, Dec 8 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences, Sri Amritsar organized a three days International Live Surgical Workshop “ENT Conclave – 2019” from 6^th to 8^th December, 2019. The conference was graced by the presence of Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi, Deputy Director, Centre for Cancer Epidemiology, Tata Memorial Mumbai and General Secretary, International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies (IFHNOS) as an Honorable Chief Guest and Dr. Roop Singh, Secretary Sri Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital Trust, Sri Amritsar & Dr. Daljit Singh, Vice Chancellor, SGRD University as Guest of Honours.

               Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi talked about the increasing incidence of Cancer in Punjab & how early detection is must. He also launched Project “SOCH” (Screening of Oral Cancer & Hygiene) an initiative of SGRD University for early detection and hence better treatment of Oral Cavity Cancer in India. He said that SGRD has been a pioneer in starting Cancer treatment in North India & with this program they aim to take their campaign against cancer to every nook & corner of the state. Under Project “SOCH” they will screen all villages of Punjab for Oral Cancer over a period of 5 years through regular camps. A mobile App of same name “SOCH” is also in process of completion and soon will be available in Google Play Store. This App will be a patient friendly app through which the patient can interact with his doctor and see all his appointments & progress regarding the disease. Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi highly appreciated this move and assured his full support and guidance.

                Dr. AP Singh Dean said that the event was started with pre-conference workshops where Cochlear Implant Surgery for Deaf & Mute child by renowned ENT Surgeon Specializing in cochlear implant surgery from Australia Dr. Sean Flanagan and Ear Surgery by famous ENT Surgeon Dr. Satish Jain from Jaipur were conducted. He said that another star attraction of the event was Dr. Wolfgang Gubisch who flew all the way from Germany to perform Cosmetic Nasal Surgeries on patients totally free of cost. He is the pioneers in modern Rhinoplasty with many awards to his credit and has trained over 1000 young doctors in this field. He further said that it is an international Live Surgical Workshop which explores Live Surgical Demonstration on Basic Head & Neck Surgery & Advanced Middle Ear Surgery, Skulbase & Rhinoplasty by experts hailing from different parts of the World. He said that the workshop is being attended by more than 300 doctors specializing in ENT from all over the World. All the surgical faculty invited are stalwarts in their respected fields. He said this academic event was a step forward in bringing new techniques of Cosmetic Nasal Surgeries & Advanced ENT Surgeries to the patients of holy city. He assured that such academic events by the University will also continue in future to his improve patient’s treatment & care in India.

           On this occasion Dr. Wolfgang Gubisch also released his book Titled “Mastering Advanced Rhinoplasty” at the inauguration ceremony and gave an academic oration about his 43 years of experience in Cosmetic Nasal Surgery. He congratulated the Dean of the University for keeping such high standards of the patients care.

         Dr. Sean Flanagan expressed his extreme joy in being part of the event and how impressed he was with the infrastructure of this university. Dr. S.P Dubey, President, All India Association of Otolaryngologist, Dr. AG Pusalkar Chief Otologist, Leelavati Mumbai also graced the occassion by their revered presence.
