Workshop on Authoring & Publishing Books organized

Amritsar, July 9 (Punjab Post Bureau) – An interactive online workshop was organized by Bhai Gurdas Library. In the wake of COVID 19, it was organised to harness the writing skills of potential authors and faculty members through this programme. The chief patron Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu and the organizing team under the leadership of  Prof. (Dr). Amit Kauts Prof. Incharge and Organizing secretary S.S Ghuman Asstt Librarian in collaboration with the team of experts from Elsevier conducted the workshop successfully. This workshop was attended by about 70 faculty members. The attendees found this workshop very informative and the insights they gathered will help them to write their first or many upcoming books.

            The workshop sessions were led by a team of experts including Ms. Louisa Munro, Senior Acquisitions Editor for Aquatic Science in Elsevier’s Books group, based in Oxford, Dr. Sangeeta Mehta, Director, Reference Solutions, Elsevier and Mr. Amit Srivastava, Sr. Solutions Manager.

            The programme was conducted in a series of training sessions, intermitted by a question-answer session. The introduction session was followed by GNDU perspective, presented by Dr. Amit Kauts. Mr. Amit Srivastava shared Publication status of GNDU faculty. Thereafter, topics i.e Book Publishing Process, Why Write a Book? Publishing Cycle and Critical Issues in Publishing were discussed by Ms Louisa Munro, in her first session. She is the Senior Acquisitions Editor, with versatile experience in publishing books; she has been part of the Earth and Environmental Science team. Geophysics, Geology, and Aquatic Science are her areas of interest.

            Why Publish with Elsevier – Value Story, Understanding researcher & learner needs and Content acquisitions – a data-driven strategy were the highlights of the second session conducted by Ms Louisa Munro, in her third session she elaborated on Deep Dive / Acquisitions Case Studies Marine Pollution, Machine Learning Techniques for Space Weather, Human Virology & COVID-19. Content transformation, Using content + technology to address researcher needs was the highlight of the fourth session held by the expert. The Question & Answer session Panel consisted of Ms Louisa Munro, Dr. Sangeeta Mehta who were committed to satisfy the doubts and queries of the participants.
