Amritsar, September 11 (Punjab Post Bureau) – In today’s globally competitive environment, Intellectual property has placed itself on a pedestal in the context of economic growth and is becoming increasingly important. Intellectual Property (IP) is the fuel that powers the engine of prosperity, fostering invention and innovation. The increasing significance of intangible assets in the global economy is forcing business organizations to actively manage their IP as a key driver for building and sustaining their competitive advantage and achieving superior performance.
On the above backdrop one-day webinar on ‘Importance of Intellectual Property in innovation Management for startups’ was organized by Intellectual Property Right Cell of the Guru Nanak Dev University in association with PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu in his message, said that the need of Intellectual Property Rights in today’s dynamic environment, “Any idea or innovation cannot be commercialized without protection through IPR”.
Mr. R.S Sachdeva Mentor PHD Chamber of Commerce extended a warm welcome the speakers and all the participants. He stressed on the need for registering intellectual creations and using IPR’s for the betterment of country. Advocate Geeta Gulati Trade Marks & Patent Attorney was one of the key note speakers during the inaugural Session. Ms Gulati delivered her lecture on ‘Overview of IPR’. She covered introduction to various forms of Intellectual Properties, types of Patents & Design which comes under IP act in India. She strongly presented her view on the current scenario of IPR and the status of India in terms of innovation and filing of IPR. She motivated students to be innovative, vigilant and briefed the audience about patenting system and various statutory provisions in India which focus on patenting in Pharmaceutical and Engineering related Inventions & innovations.
Advocate Deepika Divekar from Pune delivered her key note address on Facilitation & Systems of Protection of IPR tools and legalities for startups. She explained the process of filing & registration of Intellectual Property in India. An open discussion was also held where experts interacted with the participants for clearing their doubts and queries related to IPR. The Seminar concluded with a Vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi Director IP Cell.
