International University Sports Day Celebrated at Khalsa College of Physical Education

Amritsar, September 22 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The first-ever International University Sports Day was today celebrated at Khalsa College Physical Education (KCPE) here as per the directions of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (PSU), Patiala. A `friendly’ hockey match between the students of the Varsity and the Khalsa Hockey Academy was displayed on College’s ground to mark the occasion, said Principal Dr. Kanwaljit Singh.

            The day is celebrated world over under the aegis of International University Sports Federation (FISU), a Russia based body that aims to encourage university sports at international level. The motive behind the organising and celebrating the event was to highlight the importance of sports on University campuses and in general, said Dr. Kanwaljit Singh.

            He thanked PSU VC Lt. Gen (Rtd.) Jagbir Singh Cheema for choosing the College campus for organizing the event. He said the newly formed University under the leadership of Gen. Cheema aimed to promote sports culture in Punjab and outside apart from the focus upon sports education. ‘Gen. Cheema had been making tremendous efforts to make sports pivotal of University culture and we are thankful that he chose College campus for organizing this even’, said Dr. Kanwaljit.

            Renowned Hockey Coach Baldev Singh, deputy Coach Amarjit Singh and others were present during the match.
