Three day workshop on “Quantitative Research & its types” organised at GNDU

Amritsar, 27 November – (Punjab Post Bureau) – “A cutting-edge research can help keep the faculty stimulated and challenged “opined experts at a Three day workshop on “Quantitative Research & its types” organized by School of Education of Guru Nanak Dev University under the aegis of PMMMNMTT, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. As many as sixty participants from various reputed Institutions and diverse parts of India collaborated on virtual platform for knowledge sharing and assimilation with the best experts of the country.

            Prof. Lokesh Koul, a pioneer figure in the field of research methodology, presided over the inaugural session of the workshop. A former Head and Dean, Faculty of Education, and Dean of Studies of Himachal Pradesh University elaborated on the integral components in the conduct of research of academic credibility. He delved in the methods of knowledge construction, Types of researches conducted  in social sciences, sample size calculation, types of data,  the choice of appropriate statistical/quantitative tests and the Role of research approaches in shaping the outcomes for the determination of scientific value of research conducted.

         In the valedictory address, Prof. (Dr.) Renu Bhardwaj, Director Research, Department of Botanical & Environmental sciences of the University shared that the  nature of research is dynamic and ever evolving it is a potent instrument which connects the researchers with the rest of the world converting it into a global village.  She further evaluative that research is collaborative and interdisciplinary as it derives major inputs from the field of statistics and mathematics in addition to various other disciplines.  She also congratulated the organiser of the faculty programme for their initiative to expose the teaching fraternity to Nemours parameters of the research techniques which have emerged as of paramount importance for the conduct of quality research.   

             Prof. (Dr.) Amit Kauts, Project coordinator shared the theme, objectives & schedule of the programme with the participants in the welcome address .Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts, Head, Department of Education of the University shared that the workshop aimed at building capacity in social science research by offering training programmes and workshops on research methods & dealing with the intricacies of research techniques. The platform will provide an overview and supply critical knowledge for the conduct of research of international standards.

             A structured schedule of interactive technical sessions was conducted to familiarize and facilitate the conduct of Workshop. Besides the technical sessions, prayer and yoga sessions were also conducted on daily basis; Resource persons of top notch national and international reputation in the field of research & statistics were roped in for the technical sessions, prominent among them were: Prof. D. N. Sansanwal, Former Professor, Indore University, Indore,  Dr.  Amarendra Pani, Deputy Director & Head, Research Division Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, Dr. Kaushal kishore, Professor, central university of south bihar, gaya, bihar, Prof. Suresh Kumar Department of Statistics,  Panjab University, Chandigarh & Prof. Vandana Punia, HRDC, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar,  Haryana.

          The topics for the workshop included an overview of quantitative research methods, its types i.e., Descriptive, Correlational and Causal Comparative Research, Experimental research Method, Internal and External validity, Research Designs, Factorial Design and relevant statistics, Hypothesis- its types, testing and statistical errors, Determining Sample size, Review of literature through ICT.

            Prof.  (Dr.) Amit Kauts, Project coordinator, presented the report of the three day workshop. He shared that the workshop was a skill based & was in continuation of the series of ongoing workshops on different research methods. He said that, the participants were divided into five groups; they were continually monitored and facilitated for the group assignments. Each group prepared research proposals as the outcome of the workshop. He further shared that the collaborated work of participants and experts of the workshop would be translated into a resource book for the reference of researchers.

           Dr. Mamta Ratti presented the report of the workshop and the Participants, namely Dr Rose Kiran Pinto & Ms Akanksha Singh shared their reflections on the faculty programme during the valedictory session.

                 Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the programme. At the same time, she conveyed her gratitude to all the speakers for enriching sessions & appreciated the support of the administration for such faculty development programmes in the university.
