Kapurthala Police busts gang involved in supply of SIM cards and mobile phones

Three arrested with 18 SIM cards and 1 mobile Battery

Kapurthala, January 7 (Punjab Post Bureau) – On the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Kapurthala, Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, district Police busted a gang of 6 persons involved in illegal supply of mobile SIMS and phones to convicts lodged in Kapurthala Jail for carrying out illegal activities from inside the jail. A special team was constituted under Sarabjit Singh Bahia SP (D) Kapurthala alongwith Station House Officer (SHO) Kotwali Harinder Singh and district technical cell team to check the illegal smuggling of SIM cards and mobiles in Kapurthala jail. On a information, the team nabbed 1. Vijay S/ o Vishnu Dev r/o Sant Nagar Basti Sheikh Jalandhar, 2. Shivam S/o Ashwani Kumar r/o Preet Nagar Kapurthala and 3. Jail Warden Lovepreet Singh S/o Baljinder Singh r/o Harchowal Police station Hargobindpur district Gurdaspur.

                  Recovery- 16 active sims and one Samsung mobile battery, which were to be delivered to Vikas Jolly S/o Shiv Kumar r/o H.No 253 street number 4, Gopal Nagar Majitha Road Amritsar, Sanjiv Kumar S/o Ramesh Kumar r/o Jandiala Guru and Punjab Singh S/0 Inder Singh r/o village Butaala Police station Beas who are currently lodged in Kapurthala jail. These sims and mobile battery were to be sold to other jail inmates at huge cost for carrying out illegal activities.

               A FiR no-2 dated 6.01.21 u/s 420, 468, 471, 511, 120-B of IPC and 42 Prison Act PS Kotwali has been registered against the accused.

            The Police has also recovered a zen car number PB 02 U 5994 owned by Lovepreet Singh, which was used for smuggling these items inside the jail. During investigation it is found that Shivam and Vijay are having a criminal background and five cases of robbery, theft and attempt to murder have been registered against Vijay who was lodged in Kapurthala jail for 25 months. Similarly, a case of quarrel has been registered against Shivam who was also lodged in jail for one month. Both of them had came in contact with other accused at Kapurthala jail during their confinement period. Further investigation in this case is going on.
