SGPC to start various Gurmat courses for Sikh preachers – Bibi Jagir Kaur

Sub-committee to establish chair in the name of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib

Amritsar, May 20  (Punjab Post Bureau) – SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur has started the procedure to implement  the announcement made by on the occasion of 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, to establish a chair in the name of Ninth Guru at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.

                        Presided a meeting of SGPC’s Dharam Prachar Committee (DPC) Bibi Jagir Kaur at SGPC office on Wednesday said that it is decided to constitute a high-powered committee and the work to establish chair will be done as per the detailed report of this committee.

                     Bibi Jagir Kaur said that besides setting up a chair at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of the ninth Guru, various departments will also be named after the Sikhs associated with the Guru. She said that it is important to keep pace with the time and the SGPC would start various advanced courses on Gurmat (teachings of Sikh Gurus).

                    Under the management of SGPC, Panth Ratan Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra Institute of Advanced Studies in Sikhism Bahadurgarh Patiala is already running Gurdwara management course, while other such courses would be started at SGGSWU at Fatehgarh Sahib. Under these courses like School of Gurmat Education and Research, School of Advanced Studies in Sikhism, Gurmat Sanchar and Prachar Kendra (Media Center) and Sikh Archives are planned to be started.

                  Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “A sub-committee has been constituted for setting up a chair in the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib at the university to conduct research related to the Guru and start new courses on Gurmat. The committee will include representatives of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar; Punjabi University Patiala; SGGSWU, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, a member of the SGPC’s Dharam Prachar Committee and SGPC chief secretary.”

                   Bibi Jagir Kaur meanwhile said that efforts have been intensified to bring Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan at Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib before the sangat in a new form at the earliest. A sub-committee is being formed to expedite the work to the next level so that the constructed building could be opened for the sangat in a transparent manner.

               Present on the occasion includes SGPC chief secretary Adv. Harjinder Singh Dhami, members of the Dharam Prachar Committee Sukhwarsh Singh Pannu, Manjit Singh Bappiana, Rampal Singh Behniwal, SGPC member Bawa Singh Gumanpura, assistant secretary Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, Simarjeet Singh, Tejinder Singh Padda, OSDs to SGPC president Dr. Amrik Singh Latifpur and Dr Sukhbir Singh, S. Satbir Singh Dhami, superintendent Malkit Singh Beharwal, in-charge Varinder Singh Tharu and others were present.
