Tamil Nadu beedi factory prints picture of Guru on beedi bundle

If apology not tendered after removing the picture legal action will be taken – Bibi Jagir Kaur

Amritsar, May 29 (Punjab Post Bureau)The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has strongly objected to a beedi factory in Vellore (Tamil Nadu) for printing a picture of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, on the bundles of beedi. The SGPC has written to a letter to remove the picture with immediate effect and tender an apology or face legal action.

It is notable that in a video that surfaced on social media, a picture of the Guru has been printed on bundles and packets of beedies named Gurutaj. SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur strongly condemned the heinous act committed by the beedi factory and termed it against Sikh sentiments.

“It is very sad that the picture of Guru Sahib has been used on the packets of tobacco products (beedi) which are prohibited for Sikhs. This is a deliberate move by some mischievous mind. By committing such acts the religious sentiments of Sikhs are deliberately hurt”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

SGPC president said that the people who had printed the picture of Guru Sahib on the bundles of beedi should be strictly questioned so that the truth could be revealed. SGPC will take strict action in this matter and if the factory did not apologize after removing the picture of Guru Sahib, legal action will be taken against it.”
