Amritsar, September 29 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Department of Hotel Management and Tourism of Guru Nanak Dev University celebrated World Tourism Day 2021 in the department. This year’s theme is ‘Tourism for Inclusive Growth.’ for reviving the tourism economy and revenue. Several travel curbs should be lifted. The programme was initiated by Tourism Walk carried out by the students and faculty in the campus with an objective to make students aware of tourism and its importance. The objective of celebration is to raise awareness among people about the importance of tourism and how it helps in the economic growth of the country or any region.
On this occasion Dr. Mandeep Kaur Professor In charge of the Department said that tourism has an instrumental role in promoting cultural knowledge and awareness, offering the necessary tools and public opinion support in protecting world heritage. The main role of World Tourism Day is to highlight the global significance of tourism. She said that with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism sector has taken a backseat. But the onset of technology has made it possible to revive it quickly.
On this occasion, various competitions regarding tourism were organized. The students of the Department participated in painting, rangoli, bakery & quiz competitions. The winners were felicitated at end of the programme. Faculty and students did cake cutting ceremony. It is pertinent to mention that cake was prepared by Ms. Mansimar, the student of the department who won bakery competition.Words of appreciation were shared by Dr. MandeepKaur.
