Governor Punjab Banwari Lal Purohit will Inaugurate the Fair
Amritsar, March 3 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The much awaited nine-day-long literacy festival and book fair for the book lovers will start at the Khalsa College campus from March 5. Governor, Punjab Banwarilal Purohit will inaugurate the festival which will witness an exhibition of lakhs of books, cultural programs, flower shows, workshops and literary activities including seminars and discussions.
Governor Punjab will also address the students during the College’s 116th Convocation during which hinderds of students would be distributed the degrees, said Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina. He said they were looking forward to over 100 publishers from all over the country to exhibit their books in diverse fields in various Indian languages.
The Fair is being organized in association with the National Book Trust (NBT), a national body of the Union Ministry of Education. Principal Dr. Mehal Singh said the illustrious personality like Dr. Surjit Patar, Chairperson, Punjab Arts Council, Chandigarh, Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman, NBT, Government of India, Yuvraj Malik Director NBT will be special guests.
Dr. Yograj Vice Chairman of Punjab Arts Council Chandigarh, Dr. Lakhwinder Johal Secretary General, Kewal Dhaliwal President of Punjab Sangeet Natak Academy will also be the special invitees. Dr. Atam Singh Randhawa Head of Punjabi Department said the 16th edition of Literary Research Magazine “Sanwaad” and the book “Punjab-Search of a Better Future” will be released during the inaugural function.
A poetry function `Sukhan De Suraj’ will be organized which will be presided over by Dr. Surjit Patar and Dr. Lakhwinder Johal will be the chief guest and Dr. Satish Kumar Verma will be in-charge of the function. The famous poets including Sarabjit Sohal, Gurbhajan Gill, Vijay Vivek, Swaranjit Savi, Jaswant Jaffar, Darshan Buttar, Gurtej Koharwala, Harmeet Vidyarthi, Satish Gulati, Gurpreet Mansa, Swami Antar Nirav, Jagwinder Jodha, Sushil Dosanjh, Jagdeep Sidhu, Wahid and Tanveer will perform during the in the poetry recitals.
There will be cultural programs from 4.00 pm to 5:00 pm in which students of the cultural department of the college will perform Jhoomar, folk poetry, Suhaag and Ghodian. He said that for those who love Khalsa College and Punjabi culture sitting at home and abroad, the sections of Fairs and programs will be aired live on KCGC TV and Facebook page the Festival.
