Dera Baba Nanak brigade remembers the 1971 Heroes

Dera Baba Nanak (Batala), Dec. 5 (Narinder Barnal) – To commemorate the occasion, a Wreath Laying Ceremony held on05 Dec 14 under the aegis of Dera Baba Nanak Brigade. The Solemn ceremony was presided over by Commander, Dera Baba Nanak Brigade who laid the wreath on behalf of all ranks of the Panther Division. During the battle, enemy suffered 34 killed, many wounded and 26 soldiers taken Prisoners of War. Own forces suffered 10 killed, 32 wounded and 3 missing. The Brigade was awarded the ‘Battle Honour of DERA BABA NANAK’  for successful accomplishment of the operation and the gallant officers and men of the Brigade were awarded three Maha Vir Chakra, seven Vir Chakra, 15 Sena Medal and 14 Mention-in- Dispatches. DBN Day is celebrated on 05-06 December of every year to commemorate the exceptional bravery and courage exhibited by the valiant soldiers of the DBN Brigade during 1971 Indo – Pak War. On this auspicious day, the DBN Brigade undertook a lightening strike into the enemy territory from Dera Baba Nanak town. On the night of   05 December 1971 the Brigade was entrusted with the task of capturing the DBN Bridge to deny a launch pad to the enemy. Displaying undaunted courage, initiative and leadership, the gallant men of the Brigade launched an offensive into enemy territory on the night of 05-06 December and inspite of heavy enemy resistance captured the Bridge by 0515 hours on 06 December 1971. The Brigade had the proud privilege of being the first Brigade of Western Command to hoist tricolor in the captured territory of Pakistan.
