Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences organized “Diabetes Symposium 2014”

Amritsar, Dec. 10 (Punjab Post Bureau) –  Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Vallah, which has been in the forefront of imparting latest advances in the field of Medical Education to specialist and health provider organized a “Diabetes Symposium 2014” under the aegis of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India). It is a honour to be selected as a first Non-Govt. Medical institute to organize this symposium under NAMS. Diabetes Mellitus, a chronic disease with long term implications/complications is assuming an Epidemic proportion in the coming 1-2 decade, is associated with considerable mortality & morbidity, in addition to huge economic burden. Major complications of Diabetes is due to damage to blood vessels in the patients. The symposium was inaugurated by Regional co-ordinator of NAMS Dr. H.S.Sandhu & Guest of Honour was Padamshri Dr. Daljit Singh, Dr. R.P. Kudyar, (Principal, ASCOM Institute, Jammu) Senior & Renowned endocrinologist & experts in the management of Diabetic complications,  Dr. V. Kher (Sen. Nephrologist from Medanta Hospital Gurgoan), Dr. Khadgawat from AIIMS, shared their life long expertise in the management and prevention of Diabetic complications.

Before concluding the Symposium a panel discussion on the topic of Diabetes Mellitus was organized to clear the technical and practical problems encounter by medical professional & Para medical service providers & stress was laid to create awareness amongst the professionals  to prevent & delay the complications.Director Principal Dr. Geeta Sharma (The Convenor of Diabetes Symposium) while welcoming the chief guest, other dignitaries and the delegates, stressed the importance of organizing such a seminar for the welfare of society in creating awareness not only amongst the Doctors, Nurses, Paramedical Staff but also the amongst the general community to prepare to face the challenge of impending diabetic epidemic.

Secretary SGRD Trust S. Joginder Singh while purposing vote of thanks appreciated the topic related to most prevalent disease which is seen in almost every house. Dr. A.P Singh on the behalf of management, assumed all help for arranging seminar of public interest in future also. Dr. R.P. Kudyar in his Key Note Address stress upon the need to diagnose the diabetes in its initial face and effective management in the early stage can delay and prevent the complications. Dr. Ajay Aggarwal, Dr. Madhu Nagpal and Dr. Gursaran Sidhu highlighted the various aspects of diabetes its goal and modalities to prevent and delay the progression of Microvascular complications.
