Amritsar, June 8 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Senior BJP leader and in charge Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today hailed the ‘historic’ hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of the paddy by Rs.143. He said the hike would be a major relief for the farmers and reflects the pro-farmers outlook of the Modi government in the Centre.
He said the decision to hike the MSP for various kharif crops including the paddy was taken by the Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday for the next season of 2023-24. ‘Thousands of farmers would be happy as the input cost for growing the crops has increased. The Modi government in the centre is always committed for the welfare of the farmers”, said Chhina.
He said in the past during the previous governments in the Centre, the increase in the MSP had been meagerly of a few rupees and never had the MSP been to the level of Rs.143 which is about 10 per cent of the price of the paddy. Similarly for the millets such as Bajra and Ragi, Maize and Peanuts, the raise in the MSP would further benefit the farmers.
“The rise in the MSP would also encourage the farmers to sow the millets”, said adding that the move is evident of the commitment of the Centre government for crop diversification which is the need of the hour to enhance the farmers income.
