Amritsar, June 20 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Guru Nanak Dev University has always been striving for the propagation
of Punjabi language. Under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor and due to the continuous efforts of Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Head, Department of Electronics Technology, this department has conducted several activities on the implementation of Punjabi language in the field of technical and engineering education. Taking this series forward, the department of Electronics Technology organized a five days workshop on development of technical terminologyin Punjabi languagein collaboration with the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Sharing information regarding thisworkshop Dr. Ravinder Kumar said that this workshop is organized to fulfil the aim of National Education Policy-2020 to promote technical and professional education in regional languages. Department of Electronics Technology of this university has successfully organized five workshops in collaboration with the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology to develop technical terminology related to engineering subjects in Punjabi language earlier. The present workshop was conducted to review the technical terminology already developed in previous workshops.
A total of 12 subject experts from the Department of Electronics Technology, Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering of this university as well as experts from other institutes participated in the review work of Punjabi Engineering terminology in this workshop. Dr. Ashok Selwatkar, Assistant Director and Dr. Shailendra Singh from Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, New Delhi also attended this workshop. Dr. Ashok Selwatkar expressed his happiness on the contribution of Guru Nanak Dev University in the successful completion of this task of development of more than fifty thousand technical terms in Punjabi language. Dr. Shailendra Singh said that this technical terminology in Punjabi language will be published by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology New Delhi in the form of a dictionary very soon and it will also be available online.
Furthermore, Dr. Satwinder Singh Associate Professor and Head Department of Computer Science, Central University of Punjab Bathinda, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur Assistant Professor Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Punjabi University Patiala also shared their expertise in improving engineering terminology in Punjabi language.
During the valedictory session, the workshop deputy coordinator Dr. Rajandeep Singh Assistant Professor Department of Electronics Technology thanked all the experts from Guru Nanak Dev University and educational institutions for sharing their knowledge and expertise for successfully conducting this workshop. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Sarbjot Singh Behl and registrar Prof. (Dr.) Karanjeet Singh Kahlon appreciated the efforts made by the Department of Electronics Technology in development of technical terminology in Punjabi language and congratulated the organizing team as well as experts for successfully organizing this workshop.
