Amritsar, March 7 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (Nodal Agency) of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India has been sanctioned an amount of Rs.1210000/- to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar for setting up of Eco-clubs in colleges affiliated to GNDU for conducting Mission LiFE activities such as workshops, campaigns, exhibitions and competitions under the Environment Education Program 2023-24.
Prof. Saroj Arora Dean College Development Council of the University said that the Programme seeks to create awareness about for Eco-system restoration, solid waste management through waste segregation (biodegradable and non-biodegradable), Celebration of important environmental days, Plantation drives, Cleanliness and sanitation drives, awareness on reducing the use of Single Use Plastics(SUPs) etc., among youth and faculty to participate and take up meaningful environmental activities to promote sound environmental behavior.
She said that the students will be motivated to take up environment awareness and ecological restoration activities in their college campuses which will further empower the students to explore environmental concepts and actions beyond the confines of a syllabus or curriculum. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu congratulated and expressed happiness that Punjab State Council for Science & Technology has selected university to sensitize the students in colleges about the environment protection.
