DAV Pub. Sch Organises Performance Enhancement Programme for Teachers

PPN1805201506Amritsar, May 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A Two day Performance Enhancement Programme (PEP) for teachers of subjects Science, Social Science and Punjabi was organised at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road. The workshops were organised for the teachers of Std III, IV and V under the aegis of DAV CAE, Regional Training Centre (Amritsar Zone) under DAV Centre of Academic Excellence, DAV, College Managing Committee, New Delhi. As many as 63 teachers participated in the three workshops that took place simultaneously at different venues in the school. 21 teachers for Science, 23 for S.Stu. and 19 for Punjabi from GND DAV Public School, Bhikhiwind, MKD DAV Public School, Attari, DAV International School, Police DAV Public School and DAV Public School , BBK DAV Public School, Yaseen Road & JRS DAV Public School, Chabhal participated in the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by the Regional Director Amritsar Zone Dr(Mrs.) Neelam Kamra Principal BBK DAV College for Women, Lawrence Road, Amritsar who is the guiding force behind this innovative approach. She added that sharing of knowledge, skills and techniques go a long way in the development of a teacher which is directly related to the growth of the students. She praised the school for organising the workshops meticulously. The skilfully planned workshops aimed at enhancing the teaching – learning methodology by bringing innovative techniques into the classroom. The resource persons Mrs. Bina Newton and Mrs. Anjana Kakkar for Science, Mrs. Punam Mahajan & Mrs. Jaspal Kaur for Punjabi and Mrs. Sucheta Kathuria & Mrs. Sangeeta Chawla for Social Science felicitated model lesson planning and presented model lessons related to their subject. The use of Power Point presentations, role plays, team work and other aids was highlighted and other aspects to interest the students in the class room lessons were discussed. The teachers were instructed on the importance of designing their own instructional material and relating the lessons to daily life for better understanding. Stress was laid on student centred teaching which can yield in the cultivation of values along with the text book lessons. The resource persons engaged the participants in many interesting activities and encouraged the participants to present and share their experiences. The importance of child friendly atmosphere and use of positive remarks to boost the confidence of young learners was also discussed. Small role– plays based on text book lessons were also presented to show how a lesson can become alive in the class and attract the students for better understanding. In the end queries of the teachers were taken up and format of question paper was also discussed. The workshops were a success as many new ideas and innovative ways to enhance teaching skills were developed.
