Seminar of ‘Ozone Layer Depletion- An Overview’ at BBK DAV College

Amritsar, Sept. 26 (Pujab Post Bureau) –  Department of Botany organized a DBP Sponsored Seminar of ‘Ozone Layer Depletion- An Overview’ at BBK DAV College for Women. The seminar was convened by Dr. Saroj Arora, Associate Professor, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, GNDU. Dr. Saroj Arora throwned light on the various global threats of the environment like global warning are water and soil pollution habitat destruction and Ozone Layer depletion. She also explained that the major concern at the movement is the stratospheric ozone layer depletion. Elaborating further she added that ozone layer is the earth’s protection umbrella which protects the earth from various types of UV radiations that is UV-A, UV-B & UV-C have devasting effects on the health. UV-B causes cancer and eye damage while UV-C is considered to be most dangerous of all. Seminar also focused on the production of ozone in atmosphere and the reasons for its depletion. Besides seminar, the department of Botany also observed an ozone celebration week by conducting scientific Rangoli competition. The result of the scientific Rangoli competition was declared and winners were felicitated by Dr. Kunwar Vijay Partat Singh, DIG, Amritsar and Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra showing his concern towards environment. Dr. Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh applauded the efforts of the college and congratulated. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra for the initiative.
