Amritsar, Mar. 11 (Dharmender Singh Rataul)- The PG Department of Political Science Khalsa College Amritsar today organized a one day guest lecture on ‘Media & Ethics’ in which Jatinder Pannu a well known journalist was the key speaker who called in for the professionalism and ethical reporting. He, expressing concern over the declining ethical practices in the today’s media when it was being influenced by the commercialism, Pannu sought the monitoring bodies and in-house arrangements to check the malpractices in the media. Pannu who has vast experience in the media also interacted with the students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the College where he talked about the value and importance of ethics in the contemporary media. He guided the students about professional reporting and how a professional journalist can strike a balance between duty and ethics.
Pannu who was given warm reception by Principal Dr.Mehal Singh advised the students that they can be successful media professional if they refrain from trends like `paid news’ and `yellow journalism’. Principal introduced Pannu as a committed professional journalist himself. The students enthusiastically participated in the discussion on the subject and asked about various queries about the field and practice.
Dr. Mehal Singh said that interaction with Pannu was valuable for the students which would help them in future when they actually experience the field of mass communication and journalism. He added that the Department of Journalism is a pioneer in such activities where the students are given maximum field exposure with various outdoor as well as indoor activities. Prof. Devender Singh, Registrar, Prof. Navneen Bawa, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Jaspreet kaur, Head Department of Political Science, Prof. Sukhbir Singh, Head Department of Punjabi, Prof Atam Randhawa and various other faculty members were also present during the event.
