
Jalandhar, Mar. 13(Punjab Post Bureau)- A Grand Annual flower show and garden competition was organized at Jalandhar Cantt, today. This was conducted by the Cantonment Board, Jalandhar and Station Headquarters under the aegis of Headquarters Vajra Corps on 13 Mar 2016. Maj Gen Deepak Dhanda, Chief of Staff, Vajra Corps inaugurated the flower show and graced the occasion. Many senior officials of the Army, BSF, Punjab Police and civil administration also graced the event.
This event is being held in Jawahar Garden since 1924. The annual flower show has inspired the residents of Cantonment and Jalandhar City to take greater interest in flowers and environment. This year about 200 varieties of flowers came for display in the competition. Various flowers like Foliage plant, Potted flower, Cut flower, flower arrangement etc were displayed during this flower show. Garden show was divided into two groups. First group was open for all, whereas the second group was open for serving soldiers. Garden from various educational institutions of Jalandhar, individual and public garden, terrace gardens and Regimental gardens participated in this competition.
On the spot Rangoli and painting competition for the children was also organized on the occasion. The children displayed tremendous enthusiasm, talent and innovativeness during the competition.
In addition to individual prizes, rolling trophies were also awarded for the best maintained institutional garden, best maintained round about, best maintained private garden and best maintained arboricultural project. The competition also tested the skills of ladies and participants for on the spot flower arrangement and cut flower competition.
