DAV College organizes a Guest Lecture  on ‘RTI as a Media Tool’

Amritsar, July 25 (Punjab Post Bureau) – In order to aware the young generation about significance of fundamental rights, Department of Mass Communication and Video production organized a Guest Lecture on‘RTI as a Media tool’ on July 25th 2016. Advocate S.K Sharma, Director RTI Awareness Forum, Amritsar was the resource person of the event.

S.K Sharma is a renowned advocate and presently working as Right to Information and Human Rights Activist. He has filed more than thousand RTI’s and has worked efficiently for the social cause. Welcoming the guest, Vice Principal Dr Vishav Bandhu extended a floral welcome to the guests and presented a shawl and a memento as a piece of commemoration to them. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Principal Dr Vishav Bandhu  extended deep sense of gratitude to the resource persons for their willingness to share their personal experiences with the students and agreeing to teach them power of media as a crusader to fight for their fundamental rights. He added that college is striving hard to organize such lectures in future times.

Prof Arif Nazir, Head Department of MCVP highlighted the various aspects of Right to Information Act. He added that India’s RTI Act is internationally recognized as a strong and effective law. Over the last six years, the RTI has been used extensively by ordinary Indian citizens to demand a vast range of information from their government.

Advocate S.K Sharma began with his valuable words by thanking the college for inviting him for the lecture. He shared his personal experiences of working with various official bearers. He explained the procedure adopted for filing the RTI.  He also stressed on importance and strength of media which has power to bring revolution in present society. RTI activists are facing many threats these days, causing widespread alarm among civil society groups.

The guest lecture was attended by the students of Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication and the under-graduate students of Mass Communication and Video Production. Besides students, faculty members of the department Prof Sania Arora, Prof Sourav Sharma, Prof Vani Sharma & Prof Saundarya Kochar, Prof Ferry Bhatia, Prof Roohi Sharma and technical staff Mr. Amit Kumar also attended the event.
