Amritsar, Aug. 6 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Sub Zone Amritsar, under the supervision of Dr. Kaustubh Sharma, IPS, Zonal Director-NCB Chandigarh has taken steps to nab the Drug Mafias in Punjab. Keeping in view the deteriorating condition of Punjab Shri Sachin Gularya, Superintendent, NCB Amritsar and his team has accelerated their mission to eradicate the illicit sale/use of narcotics drugs and medicinal drugs(Injections, Syrup, Tablets containing a salt which are covered in NDPS Act).
Recently on 19.07.2016, the team of NCB Amritsar has nabbed two drug peddlers namely Charanjit Chopra @ Sweti of Kapurthala (Punjab) and Kuldeep Singh of Moga (Punjab) and seized 1924 Injections (Containing Buprenorphine, a salt of OPIUM) from the possession of both of them, while they were going to deliver the same to the drug peddlers in Amritsar (Punjab). During preliminarily investigation , it came to the notice that these medicinal controlled drugs (Injections, Syrup, Tablets) are being brought from Haridwar (Uthrakhand), Baddi (HP) and Delhi for sale in different districts of Punjab. Both the arrested drug peddlers have been booked under NDPS Act and sent to Amritsar Jail for judicial custody.
In the follow up action of the case, on 04.08.2016, NCB Amritsar has nabbed the main supplier of drugs namely IsrarHussain @ Raju of District-Haridwar (Utrakhand) near ISBT, Sector-17, Chandigarh, when he was planning to hand over the consignment of drugs to a drug peddler of Jalandhar (Punjab). Total 5000 Injections (Containing Buprenorphine) were recovered from the possession of IsrarHussain @ Raju. During investigation, it came to the notice that injections containing Buprenorphine are being supplied in the state of Punjab without any valid document or invoice on a large scale. IsrarHussain @ Raju disclosed his involvement in this business of sale of illegal/controlled medicinal drugs since long. He also disclosed that many of the drug smugglers are in his contact who belong to Phillaur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwara, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Moga, Patiala and Amritsar and many of them are whole sale medicine suppliers. On 05.08.2016, IsrarHussain @ Raju has been brought at Amritsar on transit remand from Chandigarh for legal formalities under the provisions of NDPS Act.
The Firm, manufacturing the injections containing Buprenorphine does exist nowhere :- On the spot verification in Baddi (H.P), the drug manufacturing unit/Firm could not be traced as mentioned on the ampoules strips, which made the seized total 7000 Injections containing Buprenorphine. NCB is trying to close the chapter of illicit sale of controlled medicinal drugs in Punjab very soon.
