Lahore Conservation Society to Coordinate for Heritage Conservation of Khalsa College

Amritsar, 24 May (Punjab Post Bureau)- Lahore Conservation Society (LCS), a well-known body working to preserve historical buildings in neighbouring Pakistan would provide much needed know-how techniques of conservation to Khalsa College Amritsar and other buildings in `holy city’ of Amritsar. This was disclosed by LCS President Kamil Khan Mumtaz, a renowned conservation architect from Pakistan, who was in the city and took a tour of 122-year-old majestic Khalsa College campus. “I am happy to visit this historic building. Its architect Bhai Ram Singh had planned many buildings in Lahore also. We will provide expertise to Khalsa College management and would be further working to preserve other such buildings in the city’’, said Khan. He was earlier welcomed at College campus by Khalsa College Governing Council finance secretary Gunbir Singh. Gunbir Singh who also heads Dilbir Foundation, working for environment protection and heritage conservation said LCS had agreed to collaborate in areas of synergy, share best practices and work together towards common goals in the cities of Amritsar and Lahore. “We will work in close coordination with the LCS’’, said he. Later a meeting was held where Khan, a recipient of highest civilian honour Tamgah-i-Imtiaz in Pak presented his vision through The Lahore Project (TLP) and interacted with citizens. An agreement was reached that twinning shall be initiated between TLP and The Amritsar Project (TAP), lead by Dilbir Foundation. Among those who attended the meet were Dr. Sarbjot Behl from School of Planning, Guru Nanak Dev University, Pradeep Sehgal, Convenor, CII Amritsar Core Group, senior citizens, youth volunteers and representatives of WWF and Eco Amritsar. The meeting concluded to work for protection of cultural and heritage buildings, environmental conservation and sustainable living and adoption of global practices for developing a vibrant city, conscious of its values and its responsibilities, said Gunbir Singh. He said LCS has developed a comprehensive team of artisans and craftsmen, proficient in the ancient architectural wisdom.
