Workshop on Early Childhood Education held at DAV Public School

Amritsar, 27 August (Punjab Post Bureau) – Under the aegis of DAV CMC and the benediction of Arya Ratan Sh.Punam Suri ji , President DAV CMC , New Delhi and the able supervision of Regional Director Punjab Zone A Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra, DAV Public School, Lawrence Road organised a two day workshop under capacity Building Programme on 27.08.2016 and 28.08.2016 . The subject of the workshop was Early Childhood Education. The workshop was held with the aim to bring  a qualitative improvement in the teaching learning process.

As many as 95 teachers from DAV Public School (Cantt Branch) participated in the workshop. Regional  Director Punjab Zone A – Dr.(Mrs.) Neelam Kamra inagurated the workshop and motivated the teachers to always give their best to achieve new horizons, Ms. Anuradha  Grover , Incharge Pre – Primary wing , DAV Public School and Mrs. Alka Behl were the resource persons.

The workshop aimed at enhancing all the four skills (listening, speaking , reading and writing) in young learners by adopting different methods of teaching , by creating  a classroom environment where students have real life  communication , authentic activities and meaningful tasks that promote oral language. Stress was laid on how to teach phonic sounds to kids in the least complicated manner.

            The teachers were also told to evaluate students using play way techniques such as group  games, fun activities , puzzles etc. The workshop was made interesting and enjoyable by involving the participants in different activities and also through power point presentation and motivational videos.  The resource persons also discussed the importance of meditation, how it can help the kids to learn more effectively. Only a few minutes a day can bring great benefits. Children will learn how to focus their attention and concentration.

            They also shared that kids need to move, they can’t just sit all day long. So ‘Brain Breaks’ help to bring activity back into the classroom. The whole atmosphere becomes lively with such short activity breaks. Participants were involved in such Brain Breaks. On the whole the workshop was very enriching. It was a great interactive and learning experience. Dr. Neera Sharma , Principal of the school said that such workshops are very important and fruitful. She stressed upon the fact that young learners must be given time and opportunity so that they can think out of the box.
