Amritsar, January 25 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Guru Nanak Dev University celebrated National Voter Day here today infornt of Administraitve Block of the University in the presence of Prof. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar and other staff of the University. They also pledge to cast their votes honestly for the well being of the country.
Prof. Dhillon said that the National Voters’ Day is celebrated every year in India on January 25 to mark the Foundation Day of Election Commission of India (ECI). The significance of this day is to encourage youngsters, who have reached the age of 18 to participate in the electoral process, by enrolling or registering themselves in electoral rolls and to exercise their franchise. He said that voters’ participation in the democratic and electoral processes is integral to the successful running of any democracy and the very basis of wholesome democratic elections. Voter is the bedrock of the institution of democracy. National Voters Day is mark of the power of every individual vote, he added. On this occasion Dr. Rajesh Kalia, Deputy Registrar, Sh. Sarabjeet Singh, System Manager and staff members of various departments were present.
