Aujla assured full support to the family of martyr Constable Lakhwinder Singh

Amritsar, 28 May (Punjab Post Bureau) –  Member Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla today visited the family of martyr Constable Lakhwinder Singh of 31st battalion CRPF at his village Helar in Ajnala constituency. Lakhwinder was part of the massive counterinsurgency operation launched against Naxals in 2008 in Chattisgarh during which several Maoist leaders were killed. Lakhwinder’s bravery in this operation earned him President’s Police Gallantry Medal posthumously awarded to him in 2011. Lakhwinder was survived by his wife and two children.

                      His elder brother Constable Gurdev Singh served in 24 Punjab regiment. He bravely fought in terrorist flushing operation in Uri sector on 31 Feb 2004. For his bravery he was awarded President’s Sena Medal in 2004. After the death of Lakhwinder Gurdev contacted local MLA and requested for a local job so that he may stay close to his family which he agreed and Gurdev resigned from Army in 2013 to join Punjab government job. However he was ignored by the MLA and he had to join Defence Security Corps in 2014. The family requested Aujla to pursue their appeal for job. Gurdev now employed requested job for the children of Lakhwinder. Aujla assured the family of full support and immediately marked their request to the deputy commissioner. He further assured that he will personally take up this matter with Chief Minister and will pursue family’s request for a job.
