GIAN program on Local-and Nano-Structure inaugurated at GNDU

Amritsar August 30 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) program entitled PPN2908201706‘Local-and Nano-Structure Determination of Complex Nanostructured Materials using Scattering Methods’ was inaugurated here today at Conference Hall of Guru Nanak Bhawan of the Guru Nanak Dev University. This five day progamme is being organized by the Department of Physics of the University and sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. As many as 100 research scholars, faculty and scientists from all over India are participating in this advanced lecture series and this programme will be telecast on the web for the benefit of researchers and students.

                    Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor inaugurated this progamme. He said that GIAN program was initiated by the Govt. to uplift the knowledge status of the researchers and students. He said that more such programs will be encouraged in future. Vice-Chancellor said that it is great honor for him to serve this University as Vice-Chancellor. He said that the main objective will be to more improve the work, conduct and ranking of the University not only at national level but at International level. He said that all constructive activities will be encouraged keeping in view the interest of students and university.

                    Prof. Palwinder Singh, Coordinator of GIAN program informed about the program.  He said that this program is sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. He said that world renowned scientist, Prof. Simon J.L. Billiange of Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics from Columbia University, New York will deliver a five-day course on X-ray and neutron scattering techniques that are used for the determination of structure of complex nano-structured materials.

                    Dr. H.S. Saini, Head of Physics Department while presenting vote of thanks, gave the details about the activities and research work carried out in the Department. Earlier, Prof. Atul Khanna of Physics Department welcomed the guests and introduced the guest speakers. Prof. Sandhu and Prof. Simon were also honored by the organizing department.
