GIAN Course ‘Histories of City Planning’ inaugurated at GNDU

PPN1112201708Amritsar Dec. 11 (Punjab Post Bureau) – First GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) course on Histories of City Planning inaugurated here today in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan Auditorium of the Guru Nanak Dev University. This course is being organized by the Guru Ramdas School of Planning of the University would be concluded on December 15. As many as seventy delegates from across the country are participating. Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, of the University presided over the inaugural session. He said that such like efforts are needed for enhancing academic and professional skills and endeavors. He said that university would extend on possible help for organizing this type of courses. The Course comprises of intensive workshops by the renowned international faculty, Prof. (Dr.) Nezar Al Sayyad from Department of Architecture, City and Regional Planning, University of California, Berkley, USA. Dr. Nezar Al Sayyad in his address said that he is pleased to have this interactive opportunity and looked forward to useful deliberations.  Prof. Sarabjot Singh Behl, Dean Student’s Welfare, highlighted the need of understanding historic evolution of city planning.  Welcoming the delegates and dignitaries, Kiran Sandhu, Head of Department and coordinator of the course mentioned that it was a milestone in the history of the School and shall lead to both knowledge co-production and useful interaction Prof Ashwani Luthra threw light on the University and Departmental establishment and achievements. Dr. Palwinder Singh, Local GIAN Coordinator appraised the audience about the GIAN initiatives of the University.
