Amritsar, July 16 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A 6-day Summer School program ‘VISTAS OF SCIENCE’
was organized by department of Science along with computer department and sponsored by Department of Biotechnology; Government of India under Star College Scheme from 15-20 July at DAV college, Amritsar. The event was inaugurated today in which 36 students studying in III and V semester of BSc (Med/Non-Med/Comp. Sci and B.T.) participated. The students were selected on the merit basis.
During Inaugural Session, Dr. Daizy Sharma, coordinator of the program emphasized on the fact that this summer school will provide an interdisciplinary platform which will further develop a strategic and technical understanding of different aspects of science among students.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar welcomed the chief guest Prof. Dr. Hardeep Singh Head Department of Computer Science, Dean Student Welfare and Director Placement Cell at GNDU Amritsar.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajesh emphasized that in the present scenario, we need to abolish the boundaries of science and everyone must acquire knowledge of everything irrespective of its field of specialization.
Prof. Dr. Hardeep Singh talked about the importance of cloud computing, Artificial intelligence and Machine learning to the students. He emphasized that the topic of this Summer School is need of hour where got a platform to know the different aspects of science.
The event was conducted in two technical sessions. The first technical session of the summer school was conducted by Dr. Vikas Gupta, Head Department of Biotechnology and organizing secretary of the program. He discussed about ‘Biomimcy’ innovation inspired by Nature. In his talk, he explained the advantages of this science in providing innovative and sustainable solutions for industry and research development.
The second session was conducted by Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Department of Biotechnology. She gave Hands on Training to isolate microbes from hands and air. This event was attended by all the Heads Dr Rajni Khanna, Dr Anita Mahajan, Dr Sameer Kalia, Dr Vikram Sharma and office bearers of the college along with faculty members of various departments.
