Festive season food wing on high alert

Urges shopkeepers to avoid use of artificial colours

Kapurthala, October 30 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Keeping in view the upcoming festive season the Food Wing Kapurthala is on high alert to check the food adulteration especially the sweets during Diwali.

             Assistant commissioner Food Harjot pal singh said that the food wing has already started checking drive keeping in view the Dewali festival and inspected FBO’s (Food Business Operators) especially Sweet Shops, Milk Dairies etc.

              The teams have seized 66 samples in the last fortnight and the count mainly comprises of Sweets and Milk & Milk products from various parts of Kapurthala.

               He said that the Wing is also going to check Cold Stores and other such places likely to be used to store sweets and teams will also have an eye on railway stations to check arrival of khoya etc. from other States.

           Assistant food commissioner also today held an awareness meeting of sweet shop owners of the area to aware them about harmful effects on human health of artificial colours and various adulterants.

               He said that the Sweet shop owners have been directed to either not to use colour on sweets, however they can use permitted synthetic food colour that too only in permissible quantities.

                 He also asked the shop owners to display “Best before Date” on loose sweets as per the orders of FSSAI Food Safety Standards Authority of India.

               Taking a serious note of storage of khoya , he asked the shop keepers

                  Not to store khoya/sweets in cold stores besides not to procure khoya/sweets from other states/other districts as it is deemed to be of inferior quality and is usually supplied under inferior storage/transport condition.
