Amritsar, November 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) – UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) of Guru Nanak 
Dev University organized online Refresher course for 34 faculty members. Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig Director, UGC-HRDC expressed his deep gratitude to Prof. Sandhu Vice-Chancellor for facilitating the courses at HRDC and ensured full support.
Dr. Rajbir Bhatti, Deputy Director HRDC welcomed the participants and briefed about the course curriculum, grading criteria. The participants who are from eleven different states including Haryana, Himachal-Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar-Pradesh, Uttrakhand, West Bengal and Punjab. Participants have varied specialization from Bioinformatics, Botany, Chemistry, Climatology, Commerce, Economics, English, Chemical engineering, environmental sciences, geography, Hindi, History, Home Science, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Zoology etc. as course is interdisciplinary.
Course coordinator, Prof. M S Bhatti informed participants about topics to be covered are in the field of Air, Water, Soil, Noise, Wetlands, Pond Conservation, Wastewater treatment technologies, Climate change, Sustainable agriculture, firecrackers pollution, and informed that confirmed invited speakers will be from IITs like Ropar, Roorkee, Gandhinagar, Kharagpur, IIT-BHU, Varanasi, University of Hyderabad, Panjab University, JNU, New Delhi and GNDU experts like Prof. Renu Bhardwaj, Director of Research, Prof. Saroj Arora, Director, Life Long Learning to name a few during this two weeks online refresher course in prestigious staff training center of the country.
The first academic session was marked by a lecture from Prof. R K Kohli, Ex. Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, who talked about Management & Conservation of Natural Resources through proper planning, protection and use of legislation for environmental protection.After lunch session was taken by Dr Satnam Singh Ladhar, Ex. Director (Scientist-G), Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Chandigarh.
Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor, GNDU congratulated the Director & Coordinator for taking steps in the conservation of the natural environment and informed that GNDU bagged 2nd rank as cleanest government residential university in the country as per Swachh campus award-2019 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. Of India. GNDU has its own Sewage Treatment Plant and discharges zero wastewater into the environment. University green cover is increased multifold with the vision of present Vice-Chancellor. GNDU is collaborating with research Institute of Humanity &Nature, Kyoto, Japan in the field of Role of agriculture residue burning in the ambient air quality of Punjab. Refresher course will conclude on 30 November, 2020.
