Amritsar, 3 march (Punjb Post Bureau) – The State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) of Intelligence Wing has arrested one Sukhwinder Singh s/o Gurdev Singh R/o Dayalgarh, PS Bhawanigarh, district Sangrur, who was working as a spy for Pakistani intelligence agencies and recovered photographs of vital installations and movements of army vehicles, hand-made maps of restricted areas, photocopies of restricted training manuals of the Army and information regarding Army attacking formations.
Sukhwinder Singh was arrested on basis of specific information by a team of SSOC led by Inspector Harvinderpal Singh and Inspector Balbir Singh from the area of police station Bhawanigarh in district Sangrur and a FIR 04 dated 02-03-2015, u/s 3,4,5 & 9 Official Secrets Act, 120-B IPC has been registered at police station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
The preliminary questioning of arrested person has revealed that he is an ex-serviceman retired from 21 Sikh Light Infantry in 2005, and was presently working as a security guard in a private warehouse in village Channo in district Sangrur. He was contacted and subsequently recruited by a Pakistani intelligence official using code name of ‘Sharma ji’ by allurement of money. The following tasks were given to Sukhwinder Singh by his handler:
- To find out about movement of army units in Nabha and Sangrur.
- To find out about construction of new bunkers on Indian side of the border
- Taking photographs of army vehicles along with their formation signs
- To find out about army exercises and trainings in the area.
The arrested person is being produced in court where his police remand for further questioning is being sought. Further investigations are ongoing.
