Not every painful joints need replacements- Dr. Mohit Arora

Only 5 percent out of 1500 needs knee replacement

Amritsar, Oct. 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) – “It was a painful experience for me that I could not bend my knees while bowing down at the gurdwara. I could bear the pain of my knees, but not this one,” says a 58-year-old an ex-Army man from Ranjit Nagar, Amritsar, while paying heartiest gratitude to orthopaedic surgeon Dr Mohit Arora, Consultant Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement Surgery, Fortis Escorts Hospital, Amritsar, for making him walk on his feet without pain after almost a decade.

And he is not only the one who expressed emotions for their doctor. A 37-year-old, who has been through hip replacement surgery and is suffering from avascular necrosis(a disease in which bones degenerated due to drug addiction), shared, “I have been crawling with pain for the last four years, for me it’s a new life and I cannot thank him enough for giving me my life back.” There are more than 200 senior citizens of the city & patients operated for joint replacement surgery attended the program and have poured out their emotions for their doctor on “Emo For Your Doc” board.

While debunking myths related to knee replacements, Dr Arora, Consultant Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement Surgery, Fortis Escorts Hospital, said, “Every Knee pain does not and should not lead to knee replacements. Replacements are needed when arthritis reaches stage 4, where the bone starts degenerating and there is no other option than knee replacement. Out of the 1,500 regular opds, patients coming to us with joint pains, only 5 per cent actually need replacements.”
