Sachin Tendulkar Cricket Tournament Concludes at DAV Public School

PPN0812201506Amritsar, Dec. 8 (Punjab Post Bureau)-The 3rd Sachin Tendulkar Cricket Tournament concluded at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road amidst loud cheers. The much awaited Inter – Section tournament for Std IX, which promises to strengthen academics with Co – curricular activities under the CCE pattern, commenced on 23.11.2015. The aim of this initiative is to develop the values of  team spirit, fair play, discipline, sportsmanship , co – operation,  leadership etc. among the students. The matches were organised under the guidance of the Principal, Dr.Neera Sharma and the Supervision of Mrs.Reman Sharma, Supervisor Std. IX & X. Mr.Balwinder Singh and Mr.Manvinder Singh meticulously organised the matches and Mr.Gurbinder Singh Bhatti mesmerised the audience with his commentary during the matches. Much excitement was seen among the students as a total of 12 teams competed among themselves. After a series of 13 tough matches including the quarter finals and  the semifinal,  IX – G and IX – L  reached the finals. The teams gave a tough fight to each other. The final match was won by IX – L by 9 runs. They made 109 runs in 15 overs whereas IX – G was able to make only 100  runs in 15 overs. Sameer of IX – L was declared the Man of the Match and Sachit Sarpal of IX – G carried the trophy of Man of the Series. He made 157 runs and took 9 wickets in four matches in the tournament.

Regional Director, Amritsar Zone, Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra, Principal, BBK DAV College for Women, Lawrence Road, Amritsar and the Manager of the school, Dr. Rajesh Kumar,  Principal, DAV College congratulated the school for such an innovative step and said  that such activities would help in the all round development of the students. They blessed the winning team for its fabulous performance.

Dr. Neera Sharma, Principal of the school showed her satisfaction at the successful conclusion of the tournament. She encouraged the students and the teachers who have put in their best for the tournament. She added that the values learnt during the formative years go a long way in shaping the bright future of the students.

Mrs. Reman Sharma, Supervisor Std IX & X under  whose supervision the whole tournament was conducted applauded the efforts of the teams and the teachers. She said that sports provide a positive outlet to the suppressed energies of the students which result in healthy development. According to her many lessons of life are learnt on the playing field.
