Vajra Corps Salutes The Martyrs On Kargil Vijay Diwas

Jalandhar, July 26 (Punjab Post Bureau)- On the occasion of the 17^th Anniversary of Kargil War, Lieutenant General  JS Cheema, General Officer Commanding Vajra Corps, offered floral tributes to Kargil martyrs in a solemn ceremony at the Vajra War Memorial in Jalandhar Cantt.  This was followed by a pledge  taken by all present at the ceremony to rededicate themselves to the cause of the Nation.  A large number of veterans also attended the event and offered tributes to the martyrs.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated in the honour of Kargil War heroes for the success in Operation Vijay.  On this day, 26 July 1999, Indian Army successfully took command of the high outposts which had been illegally occupied by the Pakistani intruders.  527 soldiers from Indian Armd Forces  laid down their lives in the cause of motherland  during the war. The event was celebrated with full military decorum and solemnity.
