
Amritsar, October 7 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Khalsa University (KU) Management today announced its Governing Body (GB), the highest decision making apex group to govern the varsity’s affairs. The President of Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC), the sponsoring body of the KU, Satyajit Singh Majithia, who is the Chancellor of the University is the Chairman of 11-member-body that includes Secretary, Higher Education, Government of Punjab, as per `Khalsa University Bill-2016’ provisions.
The Chancellor using powers entrusted upon him under Section 17 of the Bill, announced the BG which is equalant to Syndicate of any university. KCGC honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, who is pro-chancellor of varsity, former vice chancellor of Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) Dr. K.S Aulakh, theatre exponent Jatinder Brar, former CII Regional head, EcoAmritsar Chief and KCGC finance secretary Gunbir Singh are on board of the GB.
Other members of the body include Vice Chancellor, KU, Dr.SS Chahal, KCGC vice President Charanjit Singh Chadha, former MLA Swinder Singh Kathunangal and industrialist Harminder Singh Freedom. Registrar of the KU, Dr Jaswinder Singh Dhillon is the ex-officio member of the body. Apart from this, the Board of Management (BoM) of the KU was also announced that include apart from Majithia, Chhina and VC Dr.Chahal, Ajmer Singh Heir, Principal Jagdish Singh, Nirmal Singh and former deputy chief of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Er.Paramjit Singh Bal. Majithia stated that he was happy that the University has already rolled on with the various post-graduate, M.Phil and Ph.D classes commencing. He reiterated the management’s resolve to make the varsity a world class seat of higher learning with focus on jobs-oriented professional courses. “The research and courses relevant to the future need of the society would be the focus’’, said he.
