
Amritsar, November 22 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Dr. Narpinder Singh, Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology, Guru Nanak Dev University has awarded Excellence in Carbohydrate Research-2016 for his outstanding contributions in the area of structure and functional properties of starches from different crops. Information generated on the structural-functional properties of starches by his group has proved very valuable in understanding the differences in processing attributes amongst different varieties/line of different crops. His recent research work explains how the delayed transplantation of paddy affects the starch characteristics and quality of rice. He was awarded with certificate of excellence in carbohydrate research -2016with cash prize of Rs. 30,000 on 14th November in the inaugural function of CARBO-XXXI organised by the association from 14th to 16th November, 2016 in the Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi. Dr. Singh is President of Association of Food Scientists and Technologist, India (AFSTI) and he recently organised ICFOST-XXV at Guru Nanak Dev University in collaboration with Association of Food Scientists and Technologist, India (Amritsar Chapter), Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru and Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), Mysuru at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from 10th to 12th November 2016. The convention organised was one of the most successful convention. He appreciates Dr. Balmeet Singh Gill, Organizing Secretary and Dr. Amritpal Kaur, Treasurer of the convention for making the convention a great success. Dr. Singh is internationally known Food Technologist and is already Fellow of AFST(I), Indian Naional Science Academy (INSA), National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) and National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS). He has published more than 200 research papers, 10 book chapters and one book published by the Royal Society of Academy to his credit. He has held the position of Dean (Faculty of Applied sciences), Coordinator University-Industry Linkage programme and Head of Department. He was coveted with the prestigious J.C. Bose National Fellowship by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and The Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
