
Jalandhar, December 16 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The Kharga Corps celebrated the 45th ‘Vijay Diwas’ in a solemn ceremony held on 16 Dec 16 at ‘Vijay Smarak’. A wreath was laid at the War Memorial by the General Officer Commanding, Lt Gen MM Naravane, to pay homage to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. ‘Vijay Diwas’ commemorates the victory of the India in the 1971 Indo-Pak war which culminated in the liberation of Bangladesh. The war was fought for a period of 13 days from 03 December to 16 December 1971. In one of the fastest and shortest campaigns of military history, a new nation of 147.5 thousand square kilometres was created. Also known as the ‘Lightening Campaign’, 93000 prisoners of war surrendered to the Indian Army at the end of the operation.
