
Jalandhar, December 16 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The 45th Anniversary of victory over East Pakistan during 1971 Indo-Pak war was celebrated by Panther Division with fervor and decorous Military rituals at Amritsar Military Station on 16 Dec 2016. To commemorate the sacred day, a wreath was laid at the Panther Inspirational Park by Major General Nav K Khanduri, General Officer Commanding, Panther Division alongwith serving army officers and other ranks as a tribute to the martyrs. The General Officer Commanding, Panther Division spoke of the sacrifice and professionalism displayed which would always remain a source of inspiration for generations to come. Similar functions were also held at Dera Baba Nanak (DBN) and Batala War Memorials. In 1971 Indo- Pak war, Panther Division under the able and gallant leadership of Major General BM Bhattacharjee fought the Battles of ‘Dera Baba Nanak’ (DBN) and Fatehpur Burj’.
The brave soldiers of various Formations and Units of the Division proved their mettle and gave an unforgettable feel of their steely grit and determination to the enemy. On 06 Dec 1971, the Panther Division had the proud privilege of hoisting the first Tricolour in the captured territory of Western Pakistan. Six Maha Vir Chakra (MVC), twenty three Vir Chakra (Vrc) and thirty one Sena Medal (SM) honours earned during various battles in 1971 Operation.
