BBK DAV College organizes DBT & UGC Sponsored Workshop on Hematopoiesis

Amritsar, February 1 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Department of Zoology and Community College of BBK DAV College for Women organized DBT & UGC sponsored lecture and workshop on hematopoiesis Dr. Rahul Manan, Professor, Department of Pathology, SGRD institute of Medical Education and Research, Amritsar and Dr. Taranveer, a postgraduate student, in Department of Pathology of the same institute were the resource persons. Dr. Rahul Manan explained the concept and process of hematopoiesis that includes the formation of blood corpuscles. He showed a video to elucidate the process of bone marrow, using giemsa staining method. With the help of a projection microscope, Dr. Taranveer Singh demonstrated various hematopoietic stages to the students. The stages of red and white blood corpuscles including the normoblasts metamyelocytes were also depicted in the slides. The workshop was followed by an interactive session with the students regarding the prevalence of anaemia in females and the dietary changes required for the amelioration of the haematopoietic abnormalities. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia applauded the resource persons for motivating the students to adopt healthy lifestyle to prevent various blood-related disorders. She added that such activities are very instrumental in imparting hands-on knowledge to the students. Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Head, Department of Zoology, along with other faculty members and students, attended the lecture and the workshop.
