Two Days 62nd Sports & Athletics Meet Concluded at DAV College Sports Complex

Amritsar, February 27 (Punjab Post Bureau) – On the concluding day of two-day Sports and Athletics Meet of DAV College, Hathi Gate at sports complex Shastri Nagar, the day started with 800 meter Race (boys), Shot Put Race (boys), High Jump & Long Jump of girls and boys respectively. In the later half of the day, various other events were also held like Javelin Throw, Sack Race, Relay Race, obstacle race and many others.

            Sukhvir Singh Grewal, Director Training and Curriculum, Punjab Institute of Sports, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest and Dr. Satish K Sharma, Director Colleges, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour during the occasion. He was received by Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Advocate Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman of Local Managing Committee and members of sports board Dr. Darshan Deep Arora (President), Dr. B B Yadav (Secretary Sports Board and HoD), Dr. Vikas Bhardwaj (Joint Secretary) and other members of the sports board. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar extended a floral welcome to chief guest  Sukhvir Singh Grewal and appreciated his presence on the occasion. While speaking, Dr. Rajesh Kumar highlighted the achievements of the college in the area of sports and assured to provide best possible environment to the sport persons of the college.

            Sukhvir Singh Grewal congratulated the college for the grand success of the two-day event in which more than 800 students participated overall. He congratulated all the prize winners and shared some of his life experiences in order to address the need of sports in daily life. Dr. B B Yadav, Head Department of Physical Education read out the annual report (2016-2017) of the sports department in which he highlighted the achievements of the department at international, national and state level events.

            In the valedictory function, prizes were awarded to all the efficient sports persons who brought laurels to the college while participating in different formats of sports at different levels. Among the medallions of eminence were:

1. Roll of Honour was given to Manpreet Singh ( Best Physique) for his first position in his weight category at best Physique event. He also won Gold medal at All India Inter Varsity Tournament and was Adjudged as Best BodyBuilder During the session 2016-17.
2. Player of the Year was given to Rohan Marwaha (Cricket) for his outstanding performance in U-16 Punjab Cricket Team, U-19 AND U-23Teams for winning Inter state Tournaments for year 2016-17.
3. Award of Appreciation was given to Vikas Verma(Yoga and Malkhamb) for winning first position in Guru Nanak Dev University and he was declared the best Malkhamb Player in the Tournament for the session 2016-17.
4. Award of Appreciation was given to Lakhwinder Singh (Tug of War) for their mesmerized performance at state and National level competitions and won First position in All India Inter Varisty Tournament during session 2016-17.
5. Award for Best Athlete (Men) was given to Chandan Malhotra BA-IV   Sem and Best Athlete (Women) was given to Vandana Prashar MSc – Sem –II

In the closing ceremony, folk dance was performed by college students. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Darshan Deep Arora, President Sports Board to all the members present. The function ended with lowering of the sports flag by the chief Guest and with singing of  National Anthem by all the members present during the event.
