Amritsar, February 27 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Sikh Council of Scotland, which is a Glasgow based charity in collaboration with SGPC and DGPC has organised the visit of 173 Sikligars to Darbar Sahib and other Gurudwaras in Punjab and Delhi.
In a press Conference held at Kalgidhar Auditorium in Sri Guru Harkrishan Sen. Sec. School, G.T. Road J.S.Ahluwalia said, “the main objective of this pilgrimage is that the Sikh Sikligars who are below poverty line and cannot afford to visit Holy Gurudwaras in Punjab and Delhi could be provided an opportunity so that they could interact with their brother and sisters in Punjab and Delhi. General Secretary Sikh Council of Scotland S. Gurdeep Singh Samra said that this pilgrimage may in addition to spiritual upliftment encourage them to live better lives with the help of Sikh Council of Scotland in their villages in MP and Maharashtra”.
President Chief Khalsa Diwan S. Charanjit Singh Chadha while welcoming Sikh Council of Scotland , appreciated tireless welfare efforts by Sikh Council of Scotland for the well being of poor sikh community living outside Punjab. He emphasized that intensive efforts must be made in a such a way that poor sikh community must surly take the best advantage of Central and State government schemes to overcome the poverty line. He declared free lodging and quality education to 100 sikligars children in CKD schools. Afterwards a religious cultural program depicting glorious rich sikh history and traditional gatka performance was conducted. The program culminated with vote of thanks by Director Education Dr. Dharamveer Singh. Honorary Secy. Narinder Singh Khurana, Harminder Singh, Ujagar Singh, Amarjit Singh Anand, M. S. Sehgal, Tarundedp Singh,. Sandeepan Singh and Surjit Singh were present.
