Amritsar, March 12 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Red Ribbon Club of DAV College organized an Essay Writing competition based on the theme “Aids Awareness”. Red Ribbon club is a movement started by Government of India in Educational Institutes through which awareness about HIV/Aids is disseminated. About 50 students of the college from different streams like PGDCA, MSC (Computer Science), BCA, BSc (IT), BSc (Non Medical), Bsc (Computer science), BSc (Biotech) participated in this event.
The event was organized by Prof Harsimran Singh Anand, Nodal officer Red Ribbon club, Prof Kapil Goel, Prof Renu Sharma and student members of the club. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar appreciated the efforts of the coordinators for organizing such events. As such events are quite helpful in educating youth about preventive measures of the HIV/AIDS.
While speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that Aids has become the most serious worldwide epidemic. He also explained about overall scenario of this dreaded disease worldwide and cautioned the students regarding fast spread of this disease. He also focused on the fact that there is urgent need for increased funding and research in this field.
Speaking on the event, Prof. Harsimran Singh Anand, Nodal officer Red Ribbon Club acquainted the students about the disease and advised the students not to look down upon the aids patients but help them to recover from the trauma.
