Amritsar, July 5 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Guru Nanak Dev University launched the new portal on the University PPN0507201705Website for paperless system from Admission to Result for affiliated colleges of the University here today in the Vice-Chancellor Office of the University.

Sh. S.K. Sandhu IAS, Vice-Chancellor of the University inaugurated this student friendly portal in the presence Prof. Subodh Kumar, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. K.S. Kahlon, Registrar; Prof. S.S. Behl, Dean Students’ Welfare; Prof. Hardip Singh, Professor Incharge (Examinations); Prof. Narpinder Singh, Director Research and other officials of the University.

Earlier, on reaching the campus Prof. Subodh Kumar, Prof. Kahlon and other officials gave floral welcome to the Vice-Chancellor. Sh. Sandhu expressed his desire to have lunch with University students in the University Boys hostel. After having the lunch, he appreciated the quality of food in the hostel mess.

With the launch of this new portal on website, One stop solution for admission seekers will be provided. Under this the students will get information regarding all the colleges (i.e. Govt., Aided and Unaided colleges) on Website of the University. They will be able to see whether the Courses of their choice are available in any of the colleges in their town or nearby towns. They will be able to compare the faculty, infrastructure etc. of the colleges they are considering.

This will also save their time as no need to make rounds of the colleges, as of now, students first goes to the colleges to buy prospectus, then to submit admission form and thereafter they makes multiple rounds to find out whether they have got admission or not. Now all this will become on-line. Applications will be submitted on-line. The offer of admission will be conveyed to the students via e-mail and SMS.

On-line verification of document. As of now, the students bring documents in original to the college for verification of eligibility. University have obtained the data base of results from Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) of the last five years, Central Board of Secondary Education and ICSE for the current year. Now students will simply enter their roll numbers, software will automatically fetch their personal details like name, father’s name etc from the database. The software will also fetch their detailed marks which will eliminate the need for physical verification of documents. The system will automatically determine the eligibility of the students. This will save hundreds of man hours spent by the colleges in checking the certificates. About 99 percent of admission seeker students are from PSEB, CBSE and ICSE.

Similarly, Colleges will get data of students for their other activities, like printing Identity Cards, Library Cards etc. Assignment of University Registration Number will also become easy. As of now, students taking admissions in the month of July gets University Registration Number in the month of November/ December. This is because first the college checks the documents of the students and then sends documents to the University where physical checking is done again. In the new system the checking will be done by the software itself. So University Registration Number will be granted the moment college deposits the Registration Fee with the University.

Under new portal, the sharing latest e-recourses with students will be done for their benefit. Since the email IDs of all the students and details of the Courses being studied by them will be available in the database, the University will mail articles containing latest ideas/developments in their field of study to the students.

Issuance of Roll Numbers is important assignment which would become simple. In October, when the colleges send data to the University for issuance of Roll Number, all the documents are sent physically. Exercise for issuance of Roll Number takes about a month. It has been noticed that only two things are seen by the Principal before recommending grant or roll number to student i) deposit of fee and ii) attendance of the student. In the new system this information will be submitted by the College online on the websites of the University. The roll number will be issued instantaneously and will be sent to the login id and email of the student.
