Aujla thanks Captain for allotment of land for Horticulture Institute

Amritsar, July 16 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Member Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla thanked Chief Minister Capt. Gurjeet Singh AujlaAmarinder Singh for allotment of land at village Dhaul Kalan in Amritsar to set up the centrally sponsored Post Graduate Institute of Excellence in Horticulture. Chief Minister’s office gave clearance to the long awaited institute which is to be established by the Indian Council for Agriculture Research in collaboration with Punjab government. Aujla had raised the issue of this and other institutes in Lok Sabha during budget session. Aujla said that the border state urgently requires alternate crops for agriculture as vicious cycle of wheat-paddy crop which has ruined the fertile land of Punjab and water table. The government encourages farmers to opt for crop diversification but due to lack of such an institute the goal of crop diversification had become unachievable. He added that the horticulture institute will greatly help in enhancing farmers’ income. Aujla further said that apart from agricultural benefits this institute will attract investments in various allied fields generating job opportunities in the border district.

Along with the demand for Horticulture Institute the Member of Parliament has been raising issues like the demand of international and domestic flights from Amritsar, Aircraft Maintenance Repair Overhaul facility, establishment of Software Technology Park, Special Economic Zone, SAARC Hospital etc.
