International Literacy Day celebrated at DAV College

Amritsar, Sept. 9 (Punjab Post Bureau) – PG Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, DAV Dr. Rajesh Kumar DAV ColleCollege Amritsar celebrated International Literacy Day at Seminar Hall. Students of BDMM and BSc IT attended this event. This event was organized in Collaboration with UNESCO. The theme of this year’s International Literacy Day was ‘Literacy in Digital world’. The main objective of this event was to bring awareness and importance of digital literacy in the society.

            The event was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar. He congratulated Prof Vikram Sharma, Head Department of Computer science for organizing such events.  While stressing on the importance of literacy, he added that literacy does not mean about reading and writing skills only. Today it has gained a broader meaning as it claims people towards awareness to achieve better way of living.

             While speaking on occasion, Prof Vikram Sharma said that it is proud feeling for the college as UNESCO has globally recognized, acknowledged and applauded our DAV College on their web portal for our invaluable contribution in spreading digital literacy in the society. He also told that this event was live on webcast.

 During the event, various activities were carried out by students of the department. Two documentary films were showcased based on the topics ‘Revolution of Education with Digital Literacy’ depicting how digital literacy improves the education system in India and ‘Skill India’. Various PowerPoint presentations were also presented by students on the topics ‘Role of Social Networking Sites in Digital Learning’, ‘National Digital Literacy Mission’, ‘Use of Mobile Technology in Digital Learning’ and ‘Digital learning’. These were presented to motivate students about various digital modes of payments and for helping students make digitally literate. Various posters on different topics were also displayed to help students know how to find, evaluate and create digital contents in meaningful way. A debate based on topic ‘Pros and Cons on internet Blackout’ was also conducted during the event. Prof. Sanjeev Dutta, Prof. Vivek Aggarwal, Prof. Kapil Goel, Prof. Preeti Kamra and prof. Sunny Thakural and other faculty members were also present.
