Amritsar, September 19 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A One-Week Short Term Course on Gender Sensitization was concluded here today at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 32 university and college teachers participated in this course.
Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs was the Chief Guest. Prof. Kamaljit Singh in his valedictory address felicitated the participants on the successful completion of the Course and expressed the hope that the participants must have been definitely acquainted with the diverse nuances of the term ‘Gender Sensitization’. Labelling it as the dire need of the hour in the current social milieu in the country, he lauded the endeavour of the Centre in conducting such a Course. However, the very fact that such courses needed to be conducted for the teachers of higher education, reflects poorly on the status of gender sensitivity in our society as well, he rued. He was of the view that the respect for the opposite gender needs to be inculcated at the school level itself. Talking about the Centre, he shed light on its achievements in the last four decades or so and expressed the sincere hope that our Centre would not rest on its laurels, but continue to strive to scale newer heights in the times to come. He concluded his address by exhorting the participants to incorporate the right moral, ethical values in their own life and to disseminate them to their audience.
Prof. Suninder Tung, Head, Deptt. of Psychology, GNDU, Amritsar and the Course Coordinator summarized the contents of the Course. She described it as an onerous challenge for the society at large and enlightened the participants about the various gender issues confronting our society presently, which need to be resolved to the satisfaction of both the genders. And the earlier, the better.
Prof. Jatinder Singh, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre in his welcome address expressed his profound pleasure over the hassle free conclusion of the Course. Earlier the Chief Guest was accorded a floral welcome by Prof. Jatinder Singh, Prof. Suninder Tung and Dr. Mohan Kumar. In the end, certificates were given away to the successful participants.
