PPN180709

New Delhi, July 2014 ( Amrit Lal Manan)- The Shiromani Akali Dal led by its Delhi unit president Mr. Manjit Singh G.K. accompanied by a large number of Sikhs, today sat on dharna near the house of all Indian congress committee president Mrs Sonia Gandhi as mark of protest against formation of a separate Gurdwara committee in Haryana.  A number of protestors were injured when Delhi police used water cannon to stop Sikhs from marching in front of the house of Mrs. Gandhi. About a thousand Sikhs were taken into preventive arrest, while a large number of Nihang Singhs and a number of members from different Singh Sabha from national capital took part in the protest. The protestors raised slogans against the congress party and flayed decision of Haryana government for passing a bill by Haryana for constituting of separate Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) to manage the Gurdwaras of Haryana, bifurcating Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee – the supreme body of Sikhs.

Addressing the protestors Mr. G.K. said that congress party led Haryana government has cheated Sikhs by passing bill for a separate Gurdwara body as a ‘Money Bill’, which means salaries of the workers of the new body would be paid by the Haryana government and it would also control the donations of the Gurdwaras. “The haste shown by the Haryana Governor Mr. Jaganath Pahadia who was appointed in the tenure of congress party, shows that he wants to pay back to the party and is also in line to become Rajya Sabha member as his term is coming to an end shortly,” alleges Mr. G.K.

He adds that it was shocking that state government exercised extra-constitutional powers beyond its purview to divide Gurdwara body which has its presence in three states and a union territory, Chandigarh. “In 1984 congress party led government in centre destroyed Shri Akal Takht Sahib, later thousands of innocent Sikhs were killed in the genocide perpetrated by the leaders of congress party,” adds Mr. G.K. Hundreds of Sikhs laid their lives, in the struggle for Gurdwara reforms form 1920 to 25, forcing then British government to bow before Sikhs leading to formation of SGPC and management of Gurdwaras was handed over to the Sikhs. Mr. G.K. alleged that Congress party has proved worse than the Britishers, which is dividing Sikhs.
