Amritsar, Nov. 14 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla today did second surprise inspection at OPD, surgical wards, emergency and radio diagnosis wing of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. Around 80% of doctors were found absent from their seats, to which most of the junior residents informed that doctors were on round in their respective wards. However most of them were not found in their wards and an explanation call has been issued to them from the office of MP cum chairman DISHA committee. Since last inspection the cleanliness didn’t improve at all, an explanation call has been issued to the Medical Superintendent. Maximum complaints were received from the ward of Dr. Partap Singh Verka. Patients reported that no doctors or nurses have been attending to them since days. The situation of cleanliness was worst in entire hospital.
In spite of standing instructions by MP cum Chairman of DISHA committee to write generic names as well as salts in prescriptions, 99% of the doctors have been prescribing brands. Aujla has written this matter to the concerned departments ordering compliance with the instruction and advisories of the government.
Patients reported that Punjab Government health cards have not been entertained in the hospital to which staff informed that internet services have been down in the hospital. BSNL officials have been ordered to restore the services.
MRI machine was found non functional at radio diagnosis department, as per staff the machine has developed a fault due to non functioning air conditioning.
Commenting on the entire scenario Aujla said that 95% of the staff has lost the spirit of performing their duties due to lack of accountability, as a result they have become rigid, but his regular inspections and actions would surely bring the results. He said that only 5% compliance to the instructions has been seen since last inspection. Aujla also informed that he has a meeting fixed with Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh for this evening and he will report the entire situation to the Chief Minister.
